30 days Monday, 2 November 2026 30
45 days Tuesday, 17 November 2026 45
60 days Wednesday, 2 December 2026 60
90 days Friday, 1 January 2027 90
1 month Tuesday, 3 November 2026 31
2 months Thursday, 3 December 2026 61
3 months Sunday, 3 January 2027 92

How it's calculated

  1. Notice in days: last working day = resignation date + number of days − 1, counting the resignation date as day 1. Otherwise, it is resignation date + number of days. A week equals 7 days.
  2. Notice in months: add months to the resignation date (1 October + 1 month = 1 November), then subtract one day when the resignation date counts as day 1 (31 October). If that date is missing in the next month, use the last day of that month first: 31 January + 1 month = 28 February (29 in leap year), so the last day is 27 February.
  3. Calendar days include every day, counting weekends and holidays.
  4. Buyout ≈ monthly pay ÷ 30 × days left early, minus any leave days your employer allows as set off.

In India, your offer or appointment letter and your employer's HR policy determine the notice period. Indian offer letters typically state notice periods of 30 to 90 days. Employers might accept a buyout or an early release, but they aren't obligated to; ensure any agreement is written.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I calculate my last working day?
Begin counting your notice period from the day you resign. For a 30-day notice, if resignation happens on 1 October 2026 and that is day 1, then your last working day will be Friday, 30 October 2026. If the notice starts the day after you resign, it will be Saturday, 31 October 2026.
Is 30 days the same as one month's notice?
Not exactly. Notice periods in months end the day before the same date in the next month. If you resign on 15 January 2027 with two months' notice, your last day is 14 March 2027, which is 59 days. However, a 60-day notice period ends on 15 March 2027. If the next month has fewer days, the period ends on that month's last day: one month from 31 January 2027 ends on 27 February 2027.
Are weekends and public holidays included in the notice period?
This calculator includes weekends and public holidays since it uses calendar days. If your contract specifies working days, your last working day will be later. Check the notice clause in your contract or appointment letter.
What does a notice period buyout mean?
It means you pay your employer for the notice days you skip, allowing you to leave early; sometimes a new employer covers this cost. This calculator considers a day's pay as monthly pay ÷ 30. If monthly pay is ₹30,000, leaving 20 days early costs about ₹20,000; if 5 days of leave reduce this, it's ₹15,000. Your contract will state whether basic or gross pay is applied.
Can I use my leave to reduce my notice period?
Employers may or may not allow setting earned leave against the notice period; this depends on your contract and the leave policy. Confirm with HR in writing before making plans.
What is the notice period length in India?
Your offer or appointment letter specifies it. In India, offer letters often mention notice periods ranging from 30 to 90 days, with shorter periods sometimes during probation. To leave earlier, you can request an early release in writing or propose to buy out the remaining days.
