How the calculation is done
- Gross salary is calculated as CTC minus the employer's PF and gratuity, if these are part of your CTC.
- Your PF (12% of basic, or ₹15,000 a month if there's a cap) and professional tax are deducted from gross salary.
- Taxable income is gross salary minus the standard deduction (₹75,000 for new, ₹50,000 for old). The old regime also subtracts professional tax, 80C (including your PF), and other deductions.
- Income tax is calculated using slabs, less the Section 87A rebate, plus a surcharge above ₹50 lakh and a 4% health and education cess.
